Palestinian President Abbas re-elected to lead Fatah movement

President Mahmoud Abbas has been re-elected as the head and general commander of the Fatah movement by a unanimous vote by members on Thursday.

Abbas is the elected president of Palestine and chairman of the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), and is considered one of the founding members of Fatah.

This vote was the first to take place in 10 years, coming during Fatahโ€™s diminishing legitimacy in its ability to confront Israelโ€™s intensified attacks on Palestinian statehood.
