Situation of 'grave concern', IAEA chief says on strike near UAE nuclear plant
Rafael Grossi briefed the UN Security Council on the situation at the UAE’s Barakah nuclear power plant following Sunday’s drone strike, warning that the incident remained “of grave concern” despite radiation levels staying normal and offsite power being restored.
In a post on X, Grossi said attacks on nuclear facilities used for peaceful purposes were “unacceptable” and carried serious risks for people and the environment.
He added that he remained in contact with leaders across the Gulf region and said the International Atomic Energy Agency would continue supporting nuclear safety efforts and diplomacy.
