Iran blames US for collapse of UN nuclear talks

Iran’s mission to the United Nations accused the United States of pushing nuclear nonproliferation talks towards collapse through what it described as “excessive demands”.

In a post on X, the mission said the review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons had failed for a third consecutive time because of “obstructionism by the United States and its allies”.

The comments came after the UN conference ended without a consensus following weeks of negotiations.

Earlier, the Arms Control Association said the talks had partly faltered because Washington attempted to use the forum to address disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Iran’s UN mission added that the NPT has “no future” unless countries make broader progress on nuclear disarmament.
