Palestinians in the Gaza Strip prepare for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, despite persistent Israeli shelling and strikes.
Local reports citing medical sources indicate the death of more than a dozen people over the past 24 hours, as the Israeli army launches widespread attacks across the besieged enclave.
In the latest assault, fired bombs east of the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip at dawn on Wednesday. Israeli artillery shelling was also reported in Khan Younis, south of the territory.
Meanwhile, the death toll from an overnight strike on a residential building in al-Rimal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, has risen to four.
According to Israeli reports, the attack was an attempt at targeting the new commander of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Odeh, who succeeded Izz al-Din al-Haddad.
While Israeli officials announced that the assassination of Odeh had been successful, the Palestinian movement has yet to make a statement on his alleged killing.
