Drone hits Baghdad hotel near US embassy as rockets reported in Green Zone

Iraq’s Interior Ministry says a drone struck a hotel in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone but caused no casualties or material damage.

Officials said the drone hit the upper fence of the Al-Rasheed Hotel after an initial investigation into the incident.

Security sources had earlier reported that the drone struck the hotel complex, where smoke and fire were seen rising. The Green Zone houses key government institutions as well as the US embassy.

Security sources told Reuters that two Katyusha rockets were fired towards the US embassy earlier in the day.
