Qatar says planned Israeli strikes on Beirut suburbs were cancelled
A Qatari diplomatic source has told Al Jazeera that the US informed Doha that Israeli strikes threatened against Beirut’s southern suburbs had been cancelled following a call between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The source added that Qatar began contacts with the US on Sunday in an effort to de-escalate tensions in southern Lebanon.
Since then, Qatari officials have been involved in mediation efforts aimed at reinforcing the ceasefire, the source said.
