Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris has called for the closure of Egypt’s state television, arguing that it incurs annual losses and that no one watches its channels. Sawiris reposted a comment on X by a woman who said: “Naguib Sawiris Pasha is calling for the removal of Maspero, the headquarters of Egypt’s state television, to use its site for real estate development instead of calling for its revival in the service of culture.” She added: “When an ignorant person calls for something that affects a people from a one-dimensional perspective, it can be overlooked because they are ignorant.
