Israel confirms attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army launched air strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs.

The Israeli military has "just carried out strikes in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut against terrorist targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organisation, in response to Hezbollah's firing toward Israeli territory," it said in a statement.

The military said it "precisely struck" Hezbollah infrastructure site in the area.

According to state-media, the latest assault targeted the Ghobeiry area in southern Beirut, considered one of Lebanon's most densely populated neighbourhoods.

The bombing comes after months of Israeli attacks across Lebanon that have killed civilians, flattened villages in the south and displaced large numbers of Lebanese families.

Israel has killed over 3,756 people and wounded 11,632 others in Lebanon since early March, according to the latest statistics published by the health ministry.
