Turkey says Israel using Armenian 'genocide' resolution to cover up Gaza crimes

Türkiye has said Israel was trying to divert attention from war crimes in Gaza with its “politically motivated” resolution on the killing of Armenians during Ottoman rule.

In a statement, the country’s foreign ministry said the “malicious attempt ignores legal and historical facts” and reflects pressure on PM Netanyahu and other Israeli officials facing ICC arrest warrants.

It added that Türkiye will continue working to end Israel's expansionist and destabilising policies in the region, and continue efforts to hold the Netanyahu government accountable for crimes committed against civilians, particularly Palestinians.

Israel’s Cabinet on Sunday approved designating violence against Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I as a genocide.
