Iranian media says vessel struck near Oman for 'ignoring repeated warnings'
The IRIB state broadcaster is reporting that an oil tanker attempting to pass through the Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz was attacked "after ignoring repeated warnings".
According to the broadcaster, citing anonymous sources, the vessel was planning to travel through the waterway with the support of the US Navy.
So far, no Iranian official has made a statement on the matter.
Earlier, Axios reported that two US officials blamed Iran for the attack on the tanker hit by an "unknown projectile".
One of the officials also indicated that a second vessel was targeted, with both ships suffering significant damage but no casualties reported.
