Red Sea tensions rise as French report claims military base is being built in Somaliland

A report published by the French newspaper Le Monde says satellite image analysis indicates the gradual construction of a military base in the city of Berbera in the self-declared region of Somaliland. According to the report, the project is being supported by the United Arab Emirates and is intended to serve the interests of the United States and Israel. Le Monde said satellite images reviewed by the newspaper showed continued expansion of Berbera Airport since October 2025, including infrastructure development.
