Qatar urges US and Iran to uphold MoU and protect Strait of Hormuz
Qatar has urged the US and Iran to honour their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and continue talks to prevent escalation and protect freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that safe passage is essential to regional security and stability.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said in a post on X on Friday that he had made the appeal during a call with Egyptโs foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty.
The New York Times also reported that Qatar has been mediating between Washington and Tehran in an attempt to prevent further escalation and keep communication channels open.
