Sudan rejects US sanctions over chemical weapons allegations

Sudan has rejected new US sanctions imposed over allegations that its armed forces used chemical weapons, describing the measures as based on “false allegations” and politically motivated. In a statement issued on Sunday, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “categorically rejects the unilateral and illegal sanctions imposed by the United States against Sudan, based on false allegations of the Sudanese Armed Forces’ use of chemical weapons.” The ministry called on the United States to present the evidence supporting its accusations and reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to relevant international agreements, including continued cooperation with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
