From the Gulf to the Mediterranean: Energy infrastructure in the line of fire

On 29th July 2026, a suspected drone struck the Energos Winter, a US-owned floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), at Egypt’s Damietta port. The resulting fire spread to the nearby Gaslog Salem. Both crews were evacuated, the fire was contained, and no casualties were reported. Maritime security firms Ambrey and Vanguard identified a drone or unidentified projectile as the likely cause. Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry confirmed fires aboard two vessels but did not confirm a drone strike or identify the cause. No group had claimed responsibility at the time of writing.
