Iran says 243 students and teachers killed as nearly 500 schools targeted

At least 243 students and teachers have been killed in Iran since the start of the war on 28 February, an official from the country’s Education Ministry said. The figures come amid growing concern over the impact of the conflict on civilians and public infrastructure.

Iran’s Red Crescent Society said more than 80,000 civilian structures have been damaged or destroyed in US and Israeli strikes.

Its head, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, told Reuters news agency the attacks have also affected nearly 500 schools and 266 medical facilities, including hospitals, clinics and pharmacies.

“The number of attacks on residential and civilian areas is increasing,” Kolivand said.
