Iran has requested an urgent session of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss a deadly airstrike on a primary school, according to a letter revealed on Tuesday. In correspondence dated 23rd March, Iran’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, described the strike as a “blatant attack on children, education, and the future of the entire society.” Iranian officials said the attack targeted the Shajara Tayebah School with two consecutive missile strikes, resulting in the deaths of 168 children, most of them girls. According to Reuters, US military investigators believe American forces may have been responsible for the strike, although no final conclusion has been reached and the investigation remains ongoing.
