UAE urges international force to reopen Hormuz Strait: Report

The United Arab Emirates has told allies that it would join a multinational maritime task force aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz as it suffers from Iran's curb on the waterway, according to a report by the Financial Times.

β€œThe focus is on creating as broad an international force as possible,” one source told the British daily. β€œIt’s not about going to war with Iran. Iran went to war on the global economy and people need to stand up.”

Iran wrested control of the Strait of Hormuz after it was attacked by Israel and the US. Over a dozen vessels been attacked by Tehran in the Gulf since the war started on 28 February.
