Strike kills Iraqi government-linked fighter, wounds six
A missile strike in northern Iraq has killed one Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) fighter and wounded six others, Iraqi security and medical sources said, according to a report by the AFP. Two missiles hit a base near Kirkuk airport, but responsibility remains unclear. American or Israeli forces have been blamed in recent strikes.
The attack comes as Iraq is increasingly pulled into the regional war triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Armed groups have targeted US sites, while PMF positions have also come under fire.
Baghdad and Washington said they would "intensify cooperation" to curb attacks. Meanwhile, a drone crashed at the Majnoon oil field "without detonating, causing no damage or injuries", authorities said.
