Smoke rises over Tehran after explosions, targets remain unclear

Smoke was seen rising over northern Tehran after several large explosions were heard in the area, with additional blasts reported overnight in the nearby city of Karaj, west of the capital, Al Jazeera reported. 

Iran’s Fars news agency reported multiple explosions in Tehran and said more details would follow. 

AFP reported that two powerful blasts shook northern Tehran at about 7:20 a.m. local time, with air defences operating, though it was not immediately known what had been hit.
