Iran’s supreme leader thanks Iraq for support in war
Iran’s newly elected supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has thanked Iraq for backing Tehran in the war against the United States and Israel, according to a message carried by Iranian media.
He “expresses his gratitude to the supreme religious authority and the Iraqi people for their clear stance against the aggression in Iran,” the ISNA news agency reported, referring to Ali al-Sistani.
Earlier this month, Sistani called on “all Muslims” to denounce “an unjust war” against Iran.
Khamenei, who succeeded his father Ali Khamenei after he was killed on February 28, has not appeared publicly since his appointment.
