Indonesian UN peacekeeper killed in Lebanon, ministry confirms

Indonesia said a United Nations peacekeeper killed in Lebanon was one of its nationals, and that three others wounded in the same incident were also Indonesian.

The foreign ministry said the casualties were caused by “indirect artillery fire in the vicinity of the Indonesian Unifil contingent’s position near Adchit Al Qusayr.”

The ministry condemned the attack and called for a thorough and transparent investigation, saying, “The safety and security of UN peacekeepers must be fully respected at all times.”

Unifil operates in southern Lebanon to monitor hostilities along the border with Israel, where clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah have intensified.
