Iranian strike damages US surveillance plane in Saudi Arabia

An Iranian strike on a Saudi air base appears to have destroyed a US Air Force E-3 Sentry aircraft, a key airborne warning and control system platform, according to images.

A report by CNN said it geolocated photos of the wreckage at Prince Sultan Air Base by comparing them with earlier satellite imagery showing the aircraft at the same location.

The E-3 Sentry plays a critical role in battlefield surveillance, capable of tracking hundreds of targets across a wide area.

US officials have said the attack on the base injured at least 10 service members, with no fatalities reported, and also damaged a tanker aircraft.
