Fifa confirms Iran will play at World Cup

Fifa President Gianni Infantino said Iran “will be at the World Cup”, despite questions over whether the team would travel to the US, where most of their group matches are due to be held.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump said it would not be “appropriate” for Iran to participate, citing safety concerns.

Iran has been seeking to move its matches to Mexico, while its sports ministry last week barred teams from travelling to countries it considers hostile.
