Trump claims Iran's 'new regime president' asked for a ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has claimed in a social media post that "Iran's new regime president" asked for a ceasefire.

Ahead of a television address tonight, Trump said that the US "will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!"

Iran's IRGC said shortly after that the Strait is “firmly and dominantly” under its control and “will not be opened to the enemies of this nation by the ridiculous displays of the US President".

While Trump has made repeated claims that US-Israeli attacks on Iran have prompted "regime change", Masoud Pezeshkian remains the Iranian president, a role he has served since 2024.
