Iran rejects Trump’s claim of ceasefire request as “baseless”

Iran has dismissed claims by US President Donald Trump that its leadership had sought a ceasefire, describing the remarks as lacking credibility. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that Trump’s assertion that “the new Iranian regime leader asked him for a ceasefire” was baseless, adding in remarks reported by Iranian media that such statements “have no credibility.” Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said that Iran’s new leadership had requested a ceasefire and indicated he would consider such a request only after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
