UN chief to US and Israel: it is ‘high time to stop the war’

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on the US and Israel to “stop the war that is inflicting immense human suffering and already triggering devastating economic consequences”. 

Guterres added that Iran should “stop attacking their neighbours” and urged an end to the conflict.

He warned that “we are on the edge of a wider war” and claimed its effects are “already being felt everywhere”.

The UN chief is dispatching his personal envoy to the Middle East to oversee diplomatic negotiations.
