Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has dismissed Sudan’s Chief of Staff, Mohamed Osman al-Hussein, and appointed Yasser al-Atta as his successor, according to official statements issued Thursday. The Sudanese army confirmed that al-Hussein was relieved of his duties and retired effective April 2, noting that the decision was formalised through a presidential decree. Al-Hussein had held the position since July 2019, following his appointment by Burhan after the political transition that followed the ouster of former president Omar al-Bashir.
