US reports downed jet, helicopter hit during search mission

The United States said “search is underway” for a missing crew member after a jet was shot down in southwestern Iran, with one crew member rescued and another still unaccounted for, Al Jazeera reported.

Officials said the situation remains fluid as recovery efforts continue in the area.

The report added that the US also indicated that a Black Hawk helicopter involved in the search “was hit” but continued flying, while there were conflicting reports that another Black Hawk was also shot at.

Separately, an A-10 Warthog that provides close ground support has also been taken down, with one of its two crew members found and the other still being searched for.
