Al Jazeera: Second crew member of downed F15 located

The second crew member from a downed US F-15E fighter jet was located on Sunday amid a “heavy firefight,” Al Jazeera reported, quoting US government officials.

One crew member had been rescued earlier, while search operations continued for the second after the aircraft was shot down over Iran’s Khuzestan province.

US planes and helicopters had been searching for the crew, with videos showing low-flying aircraft and rescue efforts in the area, including unconfirmed footage of aircraft coming under fire.

The two-seat jet carried a pilot and a weapons systems officer, though the exact circumstances of the downing remain unclear.

Khuzestan, a key hub for Iran’s oil, gas and steel production, has seen heavy bombardment in recent days, disrupting industrial output and raising concerns over economic impact.
