US lawmakers condemn Trump's threats, warn of legal risks in Iran conflict
Several Democratic senators sharply criticised President Donald Trump’s latest threats on Iran, warning they could amount to war crimes and increase risks for US troops.
Senator Edward Markey said, “An unhinged and profanity-laced tweet threatening war crimes won’t open the Strait of Hormuz,” urging renewed negotiations.
Senator Chris Murphy called the proposed actions a “clear war crime,” while Senator Elissa Slotkin said targeting civilian infrastructure would be “irresponsible and wrong.”
Democratic member of the US Senate Brian Schatz added, “Bombing civilian infrastructure is a war crime, and the time to speak out against it is right now.”
