Germany welcomes ceasefire, urges diplomatic solution

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Wednesday that Berlin welcomes the two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran, calling it an opportunity to pursue a lasting end to the conflict.

“The aim now must be to negotiate a lasting end to the war in the coming days,” Merz said in a statement.

“This can only be achieved through diplomatic channels.”
