Pope urges dialogue and condemns 'collateral damage' in war for 'self-interest'

In a series of posts on X on Friday, Pope Leo XIV condemned the spread of “absurd and inhuman violence” through “sacred places of the Christian East”, ahead of the ceasefire talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan.

He said that the region has been “profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest”.

“No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood,” the post continued.

In another post, the Pope promoted “coexistence and dialogue among peoples”, writing that “God does not bless any conflict.”

He also condemned “disproportionate wealth in the hands of a few” and said “there is no lack of resources at the root of disparities”, but rather an uneven distribution of them.
