Macron tells Iranian president ceasefire must be ‘fully respected’ and include Lebanon
French President Emmanuel Macron said he had spoken with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and stressed the importance of fully respecting the ceasefire with the United States, as well as ensuring any deal includes Lebanon.
“I emphasised the need for Iran to swiftly restore freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, to which France stands ready to contribute,” he added in a post on X, after Iran’s blockade caused global oil prices to surge.
Macron also reiterated France’s full support for the Lebanese authorities, who, he said, “alone are legitimate to exercise the sovereignty of the State and decide the destiny of Lebanon”.
