Map of Israel used by Netanyahu in speech suggests annexation of West Bank completed
In a televised address from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the map behind him showed the occupied West Bank included within the state of Israel.
The map showed Israel highlighted in blue, marking out the Gaza territory and bordering countries of Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, but the occupied West Bank is subsumed within the state of Israel.
Commentators have pointed out that the image suggests the Israeli government considers the annexation of the West Bank to be complete, after a record number of new Israeli settlements were secretly approved by the cabinet on Thursday.
In his speech, Netanyahu also claimed that the US-Israeli campaign on Iran had succeeded in “crushing” Iran’s nuclear weapon programmes and said that he would continue the fight against Iran.
