UN experts condemn Israeli strikes on Lebanon as ‘illegal aggression’

UN experts have denounced Israel’s actions in Lebanon as an “illegal aggression” and an “indiscriminate bombing campaign”, according to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

More than 250 people were killed on 8 April, in what was described as the heaviest round of Israeli strikes since fighting with Hezbollah resumed on 2 March.

“This is not self-defence. It is a blatant violation of the UN Charter, a deliberate destruction of prospects for peace, and an affront to multilateralism,” the experts said in a statement.
