An Emirati academic has called for a reassessment of the United States’ military presence in the UAE, arguing that the country no longer needs direct American protection due to its growing defence capabilities. Dr Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, a political science professor, said in remarks reported by Reuters that the UAE had demonstrated its ability to defend itself efficiently during the recent Iranian attack without relying on foreign forces.
