Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said the country needs “wider and defensible borders” in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, describing Palestinians as part of what he called an “Iranian axis of evil”. Smotrich said the 1967 lines were “indefensible borders” as they do not take into account geographical and security considerations, according to The Jerusalem Post. He also claimed that Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank are “part of the Iranian axis of evil”, dismissing criticism of settler violence as “misleading campaigns”.
