Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified on the 16th day of a fragile ceasefire, as Tehran announced plans to impose tolls on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz while negotiations over its nuclear programme remain deadlocked. Washington renewed its demand that Tehran surrender its stockpile of enriched uranium, with the White House insisting Iran is obligated to comply despite the continuation of the ceasefire and existing economic sanctions.
