Iran says its army should have authority over the Strait of Hormuz
Iran believes its military should have authority over the Strait of Hormuz, according to a proposed law, a senior official said Monday.
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the parliament's national security committee, which is reviewing the legislation, told state television that the armed forces would control the strait, notably to prevent the passage of "hostile vessels."
The draft law also stipulates that transit fees be paid in the local currency, the Iranian rial.
