Pakistan UN envoy warns Hormuz disruption threatens global stability
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, warned that disruptions to key maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, pose a serious risk to global stability.
Speaking at the UN Security Council, he said secure sea lanes are vital for trade, development and security.
“Global maritime spaces are a key geostrategic arena where the challenges of the 21st century intersect. They are the lifeline of global commerce,” he said.
Ahmad added that instability in the Strait of Hormuz is already affecting food and energy security as well as global supply chains.
