Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said Tehran plans to introduce a new management model for the Strait of Hormuz that excludes any role for the United States. In a post on X marking “National Persian Gulf Day”, Ghalibaf said Iran aims to secure a future for itself and neighbouring states free from what he described as American presence and interference, without detailing how the proposed model would operate. He also referred to Iran’s historical expulsion of European powers from the Gulf in 1622, presenting it as a precedent for asserting control over regional waterways.
