Trump says US-Iran talks ongoing by phone

US President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran are continuing negotiations by phone, after cancelling a planned trip to Islamabad.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, DC, Trump said the journey was too long for a deal that was not yet acceptable, adding that talks have not reached a final agreement.

According to Al Jazeera, the discussions remain centred on a potential framework involving a ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the blockade, with nuclear issues to be addressed later.

Trump reiterated that Iran β€œcan’t have a nuclear weapon”, saying it remains the top priority in negotiations.
