Missile hits helipad at US embassy compound in Baghdad, officials say

A missile struck a helipad inside the US Embassy compound in Baghdad, Iraqi officials told The Associated Press.

Smoke was seen rising from the sprawling embassy complex located in the heavily fortified Green Zone. The embassy compound has repeatedly been targeted by rockets and drones fired by Iraqi militias.

US Embassy had earlier renewed a Level 4 alert warning that militia groups “may continue to target” US citizens, interests and infrastructure in Iraq.
