Senior Iranian official Ali Akbar Velayati has dismissed threats by US President Donald Trump to impose famine on Iran, saying the country remains in control of critical economic routes. Speaking to media outlets cited by Sputnik, Velayati said Trump’s remarks “demonstrate a lack of understanding of the global economic and political situation”. He added that global food security and fertiliser supply chains linked to the Strait of Hormuz are “under Iran’s control”, warning that “whoever tampers with the world’s lifeline will find themselves in a predicament”.
