Iranian media says air defences down drones as military reports strikes

Explosions have been reported in the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island, according to Iranian state media.

The Mizan News Agency said air defences intercepted several small drones over Qeshm, citing local sources.

Separately, Tasnim News Agency reported that air defence systems shot down two drones over Bandar Abbas.

The IRIB, citing a military official, said Iran launched missiles at “enemy units” after what the official described as a US attack on an Iranian tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

The official said the targeted units were damaged and withdrew from the area.
